Hong Kong Cricket 6s Weekend: GAME ON!

Edited 2 Years ago

Big Cricket 6s tournament this weekend in Hong Kong... India seem to be favourites... Anil Kumble will captain India... huge name in cricket. Last year's final England beat Australia on the LAST BALL of the tournament with a run out... if Australia had made it in they would have won it. I was there... what a finale.

Damn! How cool!

This is the power of the SIX. Cricket's magic number...

The 6s are 6 over games right?

actually last year all three 'finals' were decided on last ball...     was insane

Just checked the tv guide. Looks like they won't be telecasting it here again:(

What is it about Hong Kong that everything is soooo small! Rugby 7's, Cricket 6's, Ping Pong 1's.

Yeah. They have such a busy schedule now. India and Aust are locked in an epic one-day series

Thanks statto. Nice to see a HK team in there too!

they can hold there own in lower tier games...     mainly hk based indians

I'm sure they can. Any one would be in with a chance in the 6s format. (Just read up on it)

HK Cricket 6s... 6 in a team... and they hit a lot of balls for SIX. Very limited overs each game to make teams go for it, but more than 6 overs are played. It's all about rapid fire entertainment and getting bunch of different teams playing on only one pitch over one weekend (super efficient Hong Kong where space and free time are limited). The most famous HK tournament of all of course the Rugby 7s! This is cricket copying that winning formula. Recent boom in TWENTY20 cricket helping too. HK onto a winner, again.

You know, while watching the Champions League recently, I actually caught myself thinking - This is taking too long...

Now where is Raj and our Indian friends at the TL nerve centre? Chaps... what are your views on India's chances this weekend? In India there are 3 main sports... 1. Cricket  2. Cricket  3. Cricket.

Who is Raj?

Edited 2 Years ago

sorry... Rai    2nd time I've got confused. Raj a very common name in India and Rai looks so much like Raj on an email. Also Indian mate of mine called Raj.

Oh me! LOL
I thought my memory was failing me

India has a good chance in the next game. Aust has some injuries.

Give 'em time. Most of the TL nerve centre are just getting cracking today in beautiful Kerela. Indians never really think about cricket until after 10 am.

Might we rename Rai ... 'Raj'? Quite grand.

I ain't no king!>:-O

Smile  true. Good on them too... let them get their breakfast and feet under desk before the cricket chat. Kerela very beautiful... have been there once and took the long barge up the river... gorgeous day trip.

Yes, the garden of India. @Rai. You could be a Raj(mata).

Eww

In Kerela I also sampled some fresh hot toddy from a coconut... wow that stuff is strong natural alcohol and tastes good... but you have to drink it quite soon after opening the coconut I seem to remember. If you let it sit in the heat all afternoon the alcohol % starts to sky rocket so high it can make you go blind. Incredible India... the mystic subcontinent.

John Godfrey Saxe's ( 1816-1887) version of the famous Indian legend,

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approach'd the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, -"Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out his eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he,
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Then, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

MORAL.

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

Nice. Wise words..
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

Getting back on topic for the soon-to-arrive Indian Kerela team, I quote from asianpunter's opening post ...

"Big Cricket 6s tournament this weekend in Hong Kong... India seem to be favourites... Anil Kumble will captain India... huge name in cricket. Last year's final England beat Australia on the LAST BALL of the tournament with a run out... if Australia had made it in they would have won it. I was there... what a finale."

wow cool this is going to be a fantastic weekend, with cricket at its best when Australia is taking on India and then the Hongkong 6s ......... its going to be a great weekend........

yes indeed - for newbies : What is this?

have to watch it with a tin hat...    6's flying everywhere

Edited 2 Years ago

India were rubbish today... Frown  England and Pakistan both easily beat India. After the way Pakistan bowled (looking tasty) against India I think Pakistan must be the favourite to make the final tomorrow. Australia looked nothing special at all - beaten by New Zealand at cricket! - now that does not happen very often. Almost as rare as Scotland beating England at football!

My prediction is a Pakistan vs. England final tomorrow. Think one of those 2 win the tournament.

south africa beat HK on the last ball to win the trophy!      hk never been in the final before played brilliant cricket to make the final and it all came down to the last ball.. south africa needed a 6 of the last ball...  and guess what!!!        gutted for hk...   but great cricket all round...   brilliant weekend
