Google phone for real?

Edited 2 Years ago

But there are a few things we have absolutely confirmed: Google is building their own branded phone that they’ll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding

I'm guessing Google are thinking the only way they can challenge the iPhone is to produce a phone themselves?

It's odd though. Why invest in producing a phone when there are so many manufacturers out there already churning out Android phones?

I have a feeling my next phone will be a Gphone.

Me too...

I would like to be able to wave on it, and to check my Google Reader feeds.

I'm guessing that given it's a G-phone, the Reader would be a no brainer? As with all/most of their other online services.

Wave might be a while though

I don't know about that. The iPhone has a lot going for it

Sure, the iPhone is neat, but somehow I managed to resist it (probably poverty related, hehe).

LOL Me too! I'd love to have one, and sometimes when I'm using my Nokia I find myself wishing I had one, but it's just too expensive

Smartphones will become very mainstream before long. Amazing how the world is changing.

I think a major reason why Google are doing their own phone is probably to show others how to do it right. Firstly nearly all Android phones have suffered from poor battery life (2-3 hours when using it alot, not good enough) and underpowered hardware

Only the Motorola Droid seems to have really created real excitement

But with Google you can always be assured that they do something different

And here's what I think they will do
