wow 1990 picture says it all... at first glance i thought that was like 1940 or something. to grow that big so quickly must have some potential severe side effects that at first may not be obvious.

Abu Dhabi has been very shrewd,  watching the pros/cons,  lending assistance in lieu of favours, selecting the good not the bad for its own infrastructure...

Africa 2010... the FIFA world cup will shine a global media light on South Africa which is the African continent's leading indicator and driving force of modernisation. Also I fancy the Ivory Coast with the mighty Didier Drogba leading them into battle to make the World Cup quater finals... and possibly the semis! Then.... you just never know what might happen next. All good for the pride and feel-good factor of Arican people. Africa the world's forgotten continent... but not anymore from next year onwards.

Bottom line: Africa GAME ON. The next wave in global village developement.

hahaha speaking of numbers Ivory Coast at 30/1 is the best value outside bet for the World Cup I think... worth a punt. As well as Drogba... Eboue (Arsenal), Kalou (Chelsea), and the Toure brothers... Yaya world class at Barcelona and his brother Kolo (Man City) will up his game for brother and country. Rest of Ivory Coast players mostly play in Spanish and French league. They have depth. Worth a punt at 30/1

back onto the main topic...    isnt russia now attempting to build the newest "worlds tallest building"   ...   me smells trouble

Edited 2 Years ago

smells like trouble indeed... another main oil producing country building to the sky on leveraged oil money. works as long as things keep going up... but if they don't...! checkout out russia's micex stock index vs. crude oil... they move almost 1 for 1.

actually looks like they cancelled it

ah perhaps the russians are at last getting a bit more sensible.

Edited 2 Years ago

note that china/hk have like 5 or 6 of the tallest 10 in the world i think... but NEVER the no.1 tallest. more balanced, diversified.

they probably paid for dubais  just to bring them down
