It seems a little spat brewing with two of the global powerhouses.    Technology giant meets Sovereign superpower....        setting an early tone for the next decades power struggle

Yes, on Baidu.

but in terms of a global significance  it is interesting to watch someone taking china on.  Recently the stars have alligned to strengthen Chinas hand from energy to global finance to technology and i think its important to have some kind of checks and balances in a global society.  No problem with their growth...    but in a responsible way

that being said i dont think china will cry too much over this

..and as for the alleged hacking...     well thats just not cricket

I think Google must be pretty certain of the identity(ies) of the alleged hacker perpetrators to take the stance they have.

Then it's interesting that they haven't come out and said it. Or pressed charges. Or something.

Not really. They're dealing with the state here. Look what happened to Rio Tinto execs. Note the closing lines of the press release making it clear the initiative came from Google HQ and not the local op in cn.

that last link is interesting and i wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of deal hammered out in which neither side really won much  but everyone saved some face...  in the end they will still hate each other...    obviously the other angle is to see TanglerLive slip into the remaining void and take on Baidu

I think the fact that it didn't attests to the power wielded by the governors of a world state of 1.4 bn people. Business people are fairly pragmatic.

i guess the thing about this day and age is we now have 3bn more opnions with the growth of the web/blogs

companies/countries are instantly judged on their actions

Makes you wonder if anyone would have spoken out if Google hadn't...

Think Dek may be spot on with that Adobe comment.
