The Festival de Cannes just started!

Hi Loic, Cannes time again. I'm looking forward to seeing what gems emerge beyond the heavyweight movies
Hi unicronic!
Should be an interesting year with Tim Burton presiding the jury!
Indeed. For me the smaller movies often get big exposure during these kind of events and that's what interests me the most
At the SunDance festival in January a move called "Buried" got lots of attention. A lower budget movie with Ryan Renolds about being buried alive in a coffin. Apparently the movie has the lead action in the coffin for most of the movie but manages to keep us engaged. No easy feat.
Yeah, sure you also refer to the Oscars 2010 with The Hurt Locker![]()
Thanks for the tip!
Well the Oscars don't really know what they want to be anymore. More an opportunity for high profilers to bath in the media glow than anything else
I love the SunDance festival! I do agree with you on the Oscars, a few years ago only big productions could win, now it seems it tries to listen the media even more...
Cannes still remains one of the best festivals in the World and isn't totally influenced by the media.
Seems that Robin Hood is not as good as expected (critics say!) : Cannes Critical Consensus: 'Robin Hood'
Here is the official selection for this year: http://www.festival-cannes.com/en/article/57145.html Any thoughts on who will get the Palme d'Or?
Well critics have really lost touch with the people the last few years
they make less impact on movies that they used to
classic case being they collectively hated Transformers 2 but the public couldn't get enough of it
Yeah generally not listening to the critics and prefer listening to my friends. Think Robin Hood will be a hit!
Regarding the Palme d'OR, really not sure. Hopefully an unheard of movie
I did notice some interesting submissions though
a new Hideo Nakata movie
do you remember him?
Yeah definitely! With Ring!
The plot seems interesting too:
The story follows five teenagers who meet together on the Internet and encourage each other there to remove their destructive behavior. The situation gets completely out of control, as one of the boys take the opportunity to wipe his past.
In the main category, I'm really looking forward to hearing about the movies of Alejandro GONZÁLEZ IÑÁRRITU and Takeshi KITANO.
Yup Kitano is a modern movie genius both from a director and actor standpoint

Agree!
He knows how to make viewers love or hate depending on what's required
See him in Zatoichi or Battle Royale for both sides of that coin
Haven't seen Zatoichi...
A bit disappointed by the plot of Abbas KIAROSTAMI movie..
Certified Copy (French: Copie conforme) is an upcoming French drama film directed by Abbas Kiarostami. British opera singer William Shimell stars as a writer who travels to Italy and meets a French art gallery owner, played by Juliette Binoche. The dialogue is primarily in French but with parts in English. It is scheduled to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
