INTERVIEWER:  From the Nigerian contingent  in the stands just behind me in Durban there are calls for your suicide. Your comments.

YAKUBU:  I would oblige them if it would change the outcome of the game.

INTERVIEWER:  Are you playing injured?

YAKUBU:  I’m  not injured.

INTERVIEWER: How would you characterize your alcohol or drug consumption 24 hours before today’s game?

YAKUBU:  I don’t do drugs; I haven’t consumed alcohol in a month.

INTERVIEWER:  Are you experiencing family, marital problems?

YAKUBU:  No.

INTERVIEWER:  So how do you explain the worst miss in the history of the World Cup?

YAKUBU:  As soon as I saw the ball coming to me I knew it was the goal that would take Nigeria into the next round.  Which means for as along as it took the ball to reach my foot I wasn’t concentrated on what I was supposed to do.

INTERVIEWER:  Will you require special security when you return to Nigeria?

YAKUBU:  The Nigerian people are much better than that..
