Two earthquakes struck yesterday, collapsing buildings, leaving homes without power and water, and causing widespread liquefaction.
The largest earthquake has been upgraded to magnitude 6.3, with a shallower depth of 6km.

Luckily no deaths. Read in the NZ Herald that the fact that most of Christchurch has already been flattened saved the city from suffering from even more tragedy and deaths.
