Kate Bracks wins Masterchef 2011

A mum from the NSW town of Orange has taken out this year's MasterChef title in a grand finale that included a dessert from the world's best chef.

Kate Bracks scored 87 points out of a total of 100 in Sunday's grand finale of Ten's cooking reality show, beating projectionist Michael Weldon from Adelaide by five points.

Judge Matt Preston said Kate had cooked magnificently and had improved throughout the competition.

"I want to thank you for your commitment," he said.

"Your development has been phenomenal."

Kate, 36, will take home $100,000 prize money, get to write her own cookbook and complete work experience in some of Australia's top restaurants.

She dedicated her win to her husband Luke and their three children Erin, 8, Liam, 6, and Maya, 4.

"My family has been an incredible support and influence, particularly Luke," she said.

"Luke is the reason I'm still here because I don't think I could have done it without him."

Have you watched this season? What did you think about it?

I watched it, bit disappointing about the contestants. Some of them shouldn't have stayed that far in the competition (Ellie, Dani...).

Also, poor judging happened too much: when Hayden got out, and on the final dish of yesterday's finale it looked like Michael cooked better too.

What was her winning dish? Seems to me the judges are all rerally keen on very rich, sweet things. Delicious I know but not super-healthy. Do you agree Loic?

They had 3 different rounds yesterday night, the final one was to cook a dish from Noma (best restaurant in the World in 2010 and in 2011): it was a Snowman!

Her winning dish was probably the second one, where she cooked a quail.

It was not that easy to reproduce and both contestants did a pretty good job. Still think Michael should have won yesterday.
