Hong Kong: Is it losing ts relevance as an Asia hub?

I was quite shockedf to hear froma Regional head of a major Global Ad Agency group that they were just about to close their HK office because they no longer believed HK was required as a business base given that almost all their business and business growth prospects reside in China..and that HK is no longer the gateway to China it once was...interested in feedback..particularly from the any HK based members or people in finance

By the way similar comments were made about Singapore too

Whatever the business merits of doing business, it is one-of-a-kind when it comes down to topography, architecture...... and eating out.

I have to agree with you Alex and what about the party spirit, it's unbeatable. It was really good to have a Bledisloe Cup game played there (did I hear a rumour that Singapore wanted to do the same?) and the Sevens is unbeatable week if you can keep up the pace.

I'm guessing these opinions about Singapore and Hong Kong are from a purely financial hub perspective?

No Dek. Original thinking was an ad agency perspective. Wanting to be next to the clients (FCCG, luxury, whatever) who they feel are now much more mainland China-centric.
